Pensando en el Futuro (Thinking about the Future) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children from high-risk areas through mentorship. By partnering with universities and local schools in regions with high exclusion risk, we develop programs that address emotional management and expression. Our goal is to provide these young individuals with the support and opportunities they need for personal growth, emotional well-being, and academic achievement, ensuring they have the tools to develop fully and thrive.
The "School Mentoring Program in Polígono Sur," funded by the University of Seville's Development Cooperation Office and the "Sevilla Solidaria" initiative from the Seville City Council, focuses on improving life quality and school retention for at-risk adolescents. The prominent EU ENGAGED project, funded by the HORIZON Research and Innovation Actions, fosters civic participation among European youth, aiming to strengthen democratic engagement and inclusivity. Additionally, the EU Icehearts project uses sports to support vulnerable children and prevent social exclusion across various European contexts.
The association has launched a comprehensive intervention project for minors at risk of social exclusion. This psychosocial project combines group and individual interventions and runs throughout the academic year. Experiential group sessions provide instrumental and cognitive support, focusing on content designed to promote socio-emotional development. These topics are further explored in individual sessions, where mentors work one-on-one with a student from each educational center, tailoring the approach to each student's unique context.
Furthermore, the organization has developed a 35-hour training program titled "Training Program for Mentors of Adolescents in Vulnerable Situations." This program aims to provide comprehensive training for individuals taking on the role of mentor for the first time.
At "Thinking about the Future," we engage in impactful research through esteemed collaborations and significant academic contributions. Our partnerships with the HBSC study and UNICEF's Opinion Barometer on Childhood and Adolescence allow us to gather critical data on adolescent health behaviors and public opinion, respectively. Additionally, our researchers have developed notable doctoral theses on socioeconomic inequalities and antisocial behavior, alongside numerous publications in collaboration with scholars from multiple universities. These efforts underscore our commitment to advancing knowledge and informing policies that shape a better future.
